The letter books detail Cutts' business transactions as well as some personal correspondence and correspondence concerning the Knights Templar (a masonic order). Also contained in the collection are account books, bills, receipts, and letter books of Butler, Stevens & Company, a Savannah cotton factor. The materials document the firm's cotton business and the establishment of an Exporting Dept. in 1886 for naval stores and pine lumber. The collection consists of the personal papers of George J. Kollock and the Kollock family from 1815-1889. Early letters are addressed to George while he attended Round Hill Academy in Northampton, Massachusetts. Later letters include those to and from his wife, Susan; their children; and other family members. Most letters relate to family matters, day-to-day circumstances and living conditions, and travel between their home in Clarksville and Savannah. Of particular interest are letters from son, J.F. Kollock while attending Franklin College (now the University of Georgia); correspondence from E.H. (or F.) Campbell of Augusta, Georgia describing the yellow fever epidemic of 1854; and letters from W.P. Johnson and wife M.E., describing trips to Paris, France and Washington, D.C. describing the construction of the Smithsonian Institute and the Washington Monument.

The collection consists of papers of Godfrey Barnsley and the Barnsley family from 1806-1903. The papers consist mainly of correspondence, letter books, and financial records. The correspondence (bulk 1828-1873) and letter books (1837-1873, with gaps) pertain to personal and business matters relating to Barnsley's occupation as a cotton factor and merchant. Correspondents include Barnsley's business partners John Day, William D. Duncan, John R. Gardner, Edmund M. Sager, and James Sager and family members including his wife Julia Scarborough Barnsley, his uncle George Barnsley of Liverpool, and his children. Many of the family letters were written from Woodlands Plantation in Bartow County, Georgia to Barnsley while he attended to business in Savannah (Ga.), Mobile (Ala.), and New Orleans (La.) and discuss family and plantation matters. Some of the correspondence relates to his position with the Port of Savannah as vice consul and interim of the Netherlands and vice consul for the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. The collection also contains transcripts of much of the correspondence.

The collection consists of the papers of the Branch family of Savannah, Georgia from 1830-1961. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence between Charlotte Sawyer Branch and her sons John L., Sanford W., and Hamilton McDevil Branch, who served mainly in the 8th Georgia Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. The letters describe the 1st Battle of Bull Run, the death of John, the subsequent capture of Sanford (who had stayed with his dying brother), the Seven Days Battle, the 2nd Battle of Bull Run, and the Battle of Gettysburg, where Sanford was wounded and captured again. Hamilton transferred to the 54th Georgia Infantry Regiment and writes about the regiment's involvement in the Atlanta Campaign, particularly the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. He also writes from Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee while serving with Nathan Bedford Forrest.

The bulk of the collection (1931-1979) contains the correspondence of Mills Bee Lane, Jr. Includes letters (1931-1934) between Lane, Jr. and his parents, Lane, Sr. and Mary Comer Lane, while a student at Yale University; letters (1935-1945) between Lane, Jr. and Lane, Sr. discussing banking activities, finance, and farming; correspondence (1950-1974) between Lane, Jr. and his brother Edward C. Lane concerning finances and the management of Edward's farm in Valdosta (Ga.); and letters (1958-1973) between Lane, Jr. and Mills Lane concerning Mills' schooling at Middlesex School (Concord, Mass.) and Harvard University, Mills' activities with Beehive Press (Savannah, Ga.), and Mills' finances.
